An Inconvenient Truth oftewel ‘Een vervelende waarheid’ is de waarheid over Al Gore, multimiljonair geworden door het uitbuiten van de klimaathysterie. ‘Inconvenient’ betekent storend, lastig, ongerieflijk, ongelegen, niet van pas komend, nadelig, hinderlijk.

Volgens een bekend gezegde is het altijd riskant om voorspellingen te doen, vooral als het gaat over de toekomst. Dat wordt nog weer eens bevestigd als we de voorspellingen van de film van Al Gore, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, die weldra zijn tienjarig jubileum viert, vergelijken met de realiteit.

Onder de titel, ‘An Inconvenient Review: After 10 Years Al Gore’s Film Is Still Alarmingly Inaccurate’, schreef Michael Bastasch voor de Daily Caller:

It’s been nearly one decade since former vice president Al Gore released his film “An Inconvenient Truth”.

It sent shockwaves through American politics and emboldened environmental activists to push for more regulations on American businesses.

Gore warned increasing carbon dioxide emissions would spur catastrophic global warming that would cause more extreme weather, wipe out cities and cause ecological collapse. To stop global warming, humans needed to ditch fossil fuels and basically change every aspect of their lives. (…)

But have Gore’s warnings, which were alarming to many in 2006, come true?

In honor of the upcoming 10th anniversary, The Daily Caller News Foundation re-watched “An Inconvenient Truth” just to see how well Gore’s warnings of future climate disaster lined up with reality.

Gore’s been harping on global warming since at least the late 1980‘s, but it wasn’t until 2006 he discovered a way to become massively wealthy off making movies about it and investing in government-subsidized green energy. (…)

Vervolgens schenkt Michael Bastasch aandacht aan een aantal voorspellingen van Al Gore, die niet zijn uitgekomen, zoals de Kilimanjaro in Afrika, die volgens Al Gore thans sneeuwvrij zou hebben moeten zijn, maar nog immer met sneeuw is bedekt. Belangrijker is, dat hij geen melding maakte van de ‘hiatus’, ofwel de opwarmings’pauze’. Temperatuurmetingen lieten gedurende een periode van zo’n twee decennia geen significante opwarming zien tot de recente El Nino (die naar verwachting in de tweede helft van dit jaar weer zal omslaan in een afkoelende La Nina). De door Al Gore voorspelde intensivering van weer extremen, zoals stormen en orkanen heeft niet plaatsgevonden. Voorts voorspelde hij een ijsvrije Noordpool en gevaar voor het uitsterven van de ijsbeer. Ook die voorspellingen kwamen niet uit en de ijsberenpopulatie is de laatste tientallen jaren dramatisch gegroeid. Ook waarschuwde Al Gore voor een verstoring van de warme golfstroom door instroom van zoet water als gevolg van het smelten van Groenlands sneeuw en ijs alsmede het smelten van de Noord Amerikaanse gletsjers. Klimaatprofessionals noemen dit echter pure speculatie.

Het is zeer wel mogelijk, dat niet alle voorspellingen van de ‘Club van Rome’ (1972) in 2020 volledig bewaarheid zijn geworden, maar was het daarom een hoax? Waren het daarom halve gare idealisten, die in hun rapport de nuchtere werkelijkheid uit het oog verloren? Naar mijn idee is het precies andersom. Laten zien, dat Al Gore in een duur huis woont en daarom van klimaat angstzaaierij geprofiteerd zou hebben is een verdachtmaking, een oneigenlijk argument. Het is een vreemde aanname, dat alleen niet rijken legitiem voor het klimaat op zouden kunnen komen. Zelfs wanneer u ‘aantoont’, dat sommige uitgangspunten in de klimaatdiscussie ‘discutabel’ zijn, dan wil dat niet zeggen, dat de hele discussie onzin is, dat alle data fout zijn. Alleen een cynicus met dubbele agenda of een onversneden halve zool zal ontkennen, dat het met het klimaat in rap tempo bergafwaarts gaat. P.S. Een uiterst rechts pulpkrantje als de Daily Caller aanhalen maakt uw zelfverklaard objectief sceptische klimaatstandpunt niet geloofwaardiger.
