MOCA Cleveland – BARE THREADS: Petra Singh, Joakim Andreasson & Christopher Farr

Live gestreamd op 8 dec. 2016

What does it take to get the world’s leading contemporary artists to create carpets? In this exclusive conversation, three creative producers working at the cutting edge of artist designed carpets discuss their unique experiences in this industry.

Since founding Equator Production in 1985, Petra Singh has married contemporary practice with traditional artistry, commissioning international artists such as Rosemarie Trockel and Albert Oehlen to create limited edition signature designs that are hand made by experienced Tibetan weavers.
In his role as curator of Henzel Studio: Collaborations, Joakim Andreasson has engaged artists from Richard Prince to Mickalene Thomas to create original, dynamic carpet designs that push the envelope of form and function.
For over 25 years, Christopher Farr has been at the forefront of contemporary rug design. Rooted in antique Oriental carpets and textiles, he has expanded his practice through relationships with a diverse community of designers and contemporary artists such as Sarah Morris and Jorge Pardo.
In conversation with MOCA Deputy Director Megan Lykins Reich, Singh, Andreasson, and Farr will reveal the intricacies of navigating between the worlds of art, design, manufacturing, and even politics, to produce incredible works of woven art.
