The Gerrit Rietveld Academy disinvited us after student diversity complaints. This is our film about it.
The Rietveld canceled our premiere of KIRAC (12) ‘100% Integrity‘ with art collector Bert Kreuk after ‘diversity‘ complaints from students.
For an overview of the complaints on Facebook check this link:
The head of the academy Annelies van Eenennaam then talked to the press and stated that it’s a fact that we acted racist and sexist.
We then posted this video, announcing that we would come to the Rietveld anyway.
Thanks to everybody who came to the premiere of this episode and talk about Safe Space en KIRAC in De Balie April 26. We enjoyed it very much and it was great to watch the film together.
This is the link to the De Balie talk (In Dutch) with Thijs Broer (Vrij Nederland), Timon Dias (GeenStijl), Emmelie Koster (No Man’s Art Gallery), Haro Kraak (De Volkskrant):
Thanks to Jasper Wezenberg and Joost Mellink who created and moderated the evening
I was honored that Frits Bolkestein was there and made his statement about Safespace and decadence.
Also read Thijs Broers extensive piece ‘Nieuw moralisme‘ about safe space in Vrij Nederland.
The whole Rietveld affair was a very moving, complicated and interesting event for us and it was great that everything seemed to somehow fall in place yesterday evening. We think it helped us make one of the best Episodes thus far.
Curator Steven ten Thije deserves a lot of artistic punishment and I hope we gave him a good one in this film.
Thanks Tarik Sadouma and Paul van Esch for your appearances in the film and everybody who helped us make it: Tjarlie Jasperse, Sabine Ruitenbeek, Lara Verheijden, David Kerssens, Amanda van Hesteren, Bert Kreuk (was important and fun support for us during the affair), Geerten Waling, Theo Schols, Steven ten Thije, Ben Zegers, Annelies van Eenennaam, Jeroen Boomgaard, Matthijs Erdman, Nino Rubinstein and LAST BUT NOT LEAST! Gerda Jonkerman, Fatima Hammouchi.
