Honest about my faith – Nothing happened? + Graeme Ross – Hero by Kutless

Nothing happened?

On this site Sept 5, 1782 nothing happened’. A friend of mine found this written on a plaque in Berkeley Square in London.

I did a quick Google search to try to find out the story behind the sign and it turns out that it is just something you can buy online. My search showed pictures taken in other parts of the UK where this sign had been put up.

At first the sign made me laugh but then when I engaged my brain I began to feel sad. Is it ever true that nothing happens? Are some things in life so insignificant they don’t matter? Are some people worth so little that their lives count as nothing?

I’m taking some time off work at the moment does that mean nothing is happening or that I am not achieving something significant? There aren’t many things as important in life as spending time with family but history books won’t record that I was off work this week. Are the events that history records really the most important, for example who won a battle, who is in charge of a country, which team won the tiddlywinks world cup etc.? These events are significant but it is also in very ordinary circumstances that a difference is made, like the time someone gave me a chocolate gorilla.

What are you doing today? Don’t say nothing.

You are important and your life is significant.

What are you living for, how will you make a difference today?
