Alex Barnils – Das Hotel Fresh (notes for an article)

(1) (possible introduction)
Berlin is a kind of Neverland: the city has been entrusted to the young people who don’t want to grow up. It’s a renaissance made in the measure of boy. For play, they find consolation in places like this, with shattered walls. Here, at the end of the night, after the language symphony of this particular Babel has disappeared, the place shines a…s an involuntary still life. Candles become wax sculptures and the piano in the corner achieves its deserved glory.

(2) (scheme of the atmosphere)
Butts and broken glass in the corridor. Candlelight. Rooms above. Walls like abstract canvases. Darkness. Hidden kisses. Wet hair. Raining outside. Eyelids painted the color of night. She is dressed in blue and leather, and blue are his beautiful eyes, but not now. Already day. Out, grey skies are awakening. In, the warm salon.

(3) (about Youth & Immortality)
Everybody wants Youth and Immortality in this over-sized city. Everybody wants to be spontaneous. Riding ghost horses. Living in fiction. Who doesn’t want to entertain his senses after the anguish of one hundred years underground? Now they are riding the horses. Now they are riding free.

(4) (about the artist way of loving)
People conclude nights in sporadic ways: they join lips and they feed each other saliva. The artists*, on the contrary, make love behind baroque pieces of furniture with Chinese porcelain door knobs, recreating three-century-old battle landscapes in these quiet Hammershoi rooms.

(5) (*artists (who decapitate reality))
Santiago Sierra, Isabel Lewis, Rob Scholte, Seamus Farrell, Peter Skovgaard, Thomas Bachler, Lucy McRae, Kristoffer Ardeña, Melissa Steckbauer, Maykel Linares, Juan Carlos Batista, J.M. Pozo.

(6) (conclusion)
Art doesn’t exist, there are only artists.
