Marbella Marina Up in Flames as Boats engulfed by Blaze in Costa del Sol City

Around 30 Firefighters battled the Blaze at La Bajadilla Port, A Spokesman has Revealed

A Fire has Broken Out at  Fishermen’s Marina in Marbella, Destroying as Many as 80 Boats. The Fire, which Started Late this Afternoon at the Marina, is Now Under Control with the Mayor of Marbella Ángeles Muñoz at the Scene.

The Mayor said “Although the Fire has been Very Virulent, Especially the Presence of Materials Such as Plastic or Fuel, Thanks to the Quick Action of Firefighters you have been Able to Perimeter and Isolate within the Facility.

On Twitter, she added “A Dozen Fire Trucks are Working in Addition to Other Support VehiclesSuch as Two Tanker Vehicles from the Cleaning Delegation and the Emergency Device with the Local Police, National Police and Civil Protection.”

While Only Material Damage has been Recorded, One Firefighter Who took Part in Tackling the Fire was Injured after Being Hit by A Hose.

It is Still Unknown How the Incident Started but by 9 PM Local Time, 8 PM GMT, the Fire was Considered to be Safely within the Perimeter, Largely Due to Wind Carrying the Smoke towards the Sea.

According to the Town Hall, A Large Unit of Support Vehicles are on the Scene, including Firefighters, Health and Civil Protection Personnel, Officials from the National and Local Police, Forest Fire Trucks, and Two Tanker Vehicles from the Cleaning Delegation.

Access to the Fishing and Sports Port of La Bajadilla has been Cut Off as A Precaution while Firefighters continue to Extinguish the Fire.

The Fire was First Reported at Around 7.30 PM Local Time 6.30 PM GMT, with the Emergency Number 112 Receiving Another 20 Calls Alerting Services to the incident in the Marina.

The Firefighter who was Mildly Injured during the Extinguishing Work has been TreatedOn Site’ by Health Services at the Scene.

A Local Spanish Report Claimed that the Building Where the Fire Started contained Around 100 Boats for Storage or Repair.

A Huge Fire Broke Out at Marbella’s Bajadilla Marina Yesterday Destroying Eighty Boats Which were Being Stored in A Warehouse. The Mayor of Marbella Angela Munoz says she believes that the Blaze was Started by A Random Spark in the Warehouse.

The Blaze began at 7.30 PM on Wednesday PM 11th January. 30 Firefighters Tackled the Fire Along with 12 Civil Protection Volunteers.  The Fire Took Hold and Spread Rapidly, with the Warehouse Collapsing Just Minutes After the Fire Started.  It was Brought under Control at 9 PM, and was Finally Extinguished Earlier this morning. Three Fire Engines Remained on Site Overnight Damping Down the Flames.

One Firefighter Suffered Minor Injuries Whilst Tackling the Blaze.

A Local Spanish Report said the Fire had Started in A Building Where Around 100 Boats were being Stored or Repaired.

Mayor Angeles Munoz is On Site and has been Meeting with the Emergency Services Who Continue to Douse the Remaining Flames. Once Complete and Undertaken to Ensure that There is No Further Danger and to Make Sure There were No Casualties.

Local Newspaper Sur is Reporting that as Many as 80 Boats may have been Affected by the Fire

Forensics Teams are Expected to Arrive on Site Tomorrow to Begin the Slow Process of Understanding Where and How the Fire Started.

The Warehouse is Completely Destroyed According to Local Reports and Video Coverage. Viva Marbella is Reporting that A Dozen Fire Trucks are On the Scene and At Least 30 Firemen involved in Trying to Put Out the Blaze.

They also Report that the Blaze has been Contained in the Area of the Warehouse and has Not Spread to Other Parts of the Marina, but that Boats and Jetskis In and Alongside the Warehouse have been Destroyed.

The Fire is said to have Broken Out Late Afternoon on Wednesday, January 11 and has Quickly Spread to Boats and Buildings.

Emergency Services are On the Scene and are Working to Contain the Fire with the Main Focus being the Chemical Store
.

It is Understood that the Emergency Services have Managed to Contain the Spread of the Fire, However, the Area remains Out of Bounds with All Access Cut Off whilst the Firemen continue Working to Extinguish the Blaze. Strong Winds are said to be Fanning the Blaze Making Containment More Difficult
