A group of approximately 20 bottlenose dolphins was spotted off Huisduinen. The pod consisted of two subgroups, a mix of adults and juveniles, and swam eastwards into the Marsdiep in the direction of Den Oever. Bottlenose dolphins used to be common in this area in the first half of the 20th century, but became very rare after the construction of the ‘Afsluitdijk‘. In 2004 a similar group of dolphins was spotted in the Marsdiep.
